Last month Tumbleweed emerged with a new single ‘Shadowland’ which marked the first new music from the Wollongong five piece since 2014. Now they return with another selection from their recording session with Rob Younger in the producer’s chair. ‘Rebellion’ is the second single to be unleashed and features on the bands double A side 7” single that also includes the aforementioned ‘Shadowland’.
Vocalist Richie Lewis describes the inspiration behind the track “The way we are and the way we live is not sustainable. We have lost our connection to the world that supports us, we are focussed on fantasy, a world of economics, a world of lies, yet still driven by our primal urges of fear and greed. A small number of humans decide the fate of our species, their motivation is only profit and growth, they serve themselves and yet the decisions they make impact all life on our planet.”
Lewis says he wanted to write something to acknowledge the bravery of people who stand up for others, people who take risks for the greater good. “Rebellion is about feeling helpless, watching a slow train wreck, yet kicking against the inevitable and having a glimmer of hope that maybe we can change its course.”
Tumbleweed’s return single in October saw them added to Double J and Rage, and allowed them to get back on stage to play shows in Sydney and Wollongong as part of Great Southern Nights. The band are gearing up to celebrate their thirtieth anniversary in 2021 with more new music as well as a series of reissues and special releases.
