The Music Lounge and Wollongong Conservatorium of Music present – AVANT-GARDE PIANO VISIONARY: LISA MOORE

The Music Lounge and Wollongong Conservatorium of Music present – AVANT-GARDE PIANO VISIONARY: LISA MOORE

May 14, 2019

For one night only, the New York-based Australian virtuoso musician, recording artist, and founding Bang on a Can pianist, the “warm and wonderful Lisa Moore” (TimeOut NY), returns to Wollongong for the first time since the 1990s.

Crowned “New York’s queen of avant-garde piano” and “visionary” in The New Yorker, Lisa Moore’s performances combine music and theatre with expressive and emotional power.

She will play piano and use her voice, performing a collection of songs, rags, and ‘paintings in sound’ – linking and connecting works within her playbook – music composed by Philip Glass, David Lang, Leoš Janáček, Randy Newman, Martin Bresnick, Julia Wolfe, Missy Mazzoli and Elena Kats-Chernin.

Lisa Moore will present the world-premiere of her own work ‘Dark Matters’. Offering a blend of commentary and music, this concert will present an intimate life journey evoking natural imagery and human aspirations – horizons, mists, the Dalai Lama, and Ishi’s healing song.

“Lisa Moore is one of Australia’s great musical exports. Born in Canberra, Lisa has been based in New York for the past 30+ years where she has worked closely with many of the world’s leading composers. It is a privilege to be able to present this concert for our community.” –  Luke Tierney (Assistant Director, Wollongong Conservatorium of Music)
