Melbourne alternative-rock five-piece Terra are today unveiling the first taste of new music in two years with their brand new single and video, ‘Confidence‘, featuring guest vocals by Belle Haven‘s David De La Hoz. Not only this – the release comes just ahead of Terra’s national support slot for Yours Truly, kicking off August 2!
‘Confidence’ is a massive return to form and encapsulates the feelings of strength and power in overcoming disappointment and dependence on role models, and is about figuring out ones own self worth.
Front woman Cassie Sutton explains that ‘Confidence’ “is about breaking dependence on role models in order to find identity from within. The song explores transforming the experience of being let down into self-worth and strength. ‘Confidence’ uses the bitterness of disappointment to progress from naivety to the realization that people have flaws and weaknesses.”
The music clip that accompanies the track, produced by Abele Productions and Dillon Pearce Media, brings the meaning behind the song to life by narrating the story of two siblings who gradually drift apart due to ignorance and neglect on behalf of the brother, played by Belle Haven’s David De La Hoz.
Cassie plays the sister who looks up to her brother as a role model and is torn down after he ignores her plea for help. The video progresses to show how Cassie’s character develops her strength and self belief and moves into a new phase of her life while David’s character is left to deal with the consequences of his actions.
In the early stages of the band, Terra saw success with the pop-rock cover of Vanessa Carlton’s ‘A Thousand Miles’, and later went on to release their debut single ‘Talk is Cheap’ which built Terra a strong following of devoted fans across the country. 2017 brought with it the release of the bands debut EP Wasted Days, which became a major talking point for the band, marking a new era for Terra.
The release of ‘Wasted Days’ resulted in new and exciting opportunities including playing support for Tonight Alive, achieving national radio airplay on Triple J and Triple J Unearthed and playing a sold out EP launch show at Wrangler Studios in Melbourne.
After a few lineup changes and the introduction of new members Joey Knight (rhythm guitar), Darcy Leadoux (bass), Darcy Handley (drums) and Sean Morris (lead guitar), Terra was finally complete as a five-piece outfit. The new lineup has welcomed a fresh, enthusiastic new Terra, ready to take the Australian music scene by storm.
This year the band have been able to cut their teeth nationally for the first time, supporting Storm The Sky on their final tour and playing Sydney’s inaugural Usfest at Oxford Arts Factory to a packed out room alongside Redhook, Stateside, Yours Truly and Between You & Me.
Terra will embark on a national tour supporting Yours Truly on the ‘Afterglow In Australia‘ tour which will begin on August 2 at Melbourne’s Stay Gold and will then head to Adelaide’s West Thebby on August 3, Canberra’s Transit on August 8, Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory on August 9 and finally Brisbane on August 24 at Crowbar Black. Tickets available at https://yourstruly.tix.to/Australia.
Through the trials and tribulations that have lead to this point, Terra have matured into a band to watch this year and beyond. “Confidence” is available now on all digital and streaming.
