As Sydney locals head into a further extension of Covid lockdown, singer/songwriter Virginia Lillye is taking the latest lockdown into her own hands by releasing her original pieces of artwork on used drum skins.

Saving drum skins from being thrown into the trash, she takes these drum skins and turns them into incredible works of art ready to hang or to be framed and placed onto empty walls.

Each individual piece is born using media such as ‘Posca’ pens drawn directly on used drum skins sourced from her work in the music industry exploring the unique, mystical and intriguing movement and rhythm where the visual and auditory worlds collide.

“Lockdown has given me the chance to finally bring my work out to the world. I am so grateful for the rapid and positive response I have had so far” says Virginia.

Influenced by artists such as Gaudi, Picasso and Frida Kahlo; she combines her love and fascination for nature, the ocean, spiritual realms, earth elements, animals, music and the energy of life with free flowing forms, intricate patterns and a swelling tide of a continuous movement. Her work is quirky and playful yet beautiful and magical.

Her artwork has appeared on the album cover for her rock band ‘Lillye’ and was recently a winner in the “art & Sole Sneaker Design Competition sponsored by Liquitex Australia and Volley.

Each design she pens, is the product of her cocoon.. all uniquely spun and blossomed on its canvas like the intricate wings of a butterfly. No piece is ever the same.
