Embracing a new creative chapter for 2019, Sasha March presents earnest vibrancy in her new single, ‘TEN DAYS’. Hailing from Adelaide, now based in Sydney, March’s new music signals a journey down a new musical path. As one of South Australia’s most renowned vocalists and musicians, March’s latest release in ‘Ten Days’ is one that still remains true to her folk foundations, but defined by strong alt-indie instrumentation and delivery.
Bunkering down in Sydney with Ollie Brown (Julia Stone, The Iron Horses) and Steve Smart(City Calm Down, Flume), ‘Ten Days’ saw fruition under two of Australia’s best production and engineering minds, as sessions at Camperdown’s Church Street Studiosand the iconic Studios 301 culminated in a striking final result. In the same vein as Gretta Ray and Tia Gostelow, March’s songwriting comes from a place of honesty, experiences lived and delivered with passion.
Vocally, March is at her strongest, with ‘Ten Days’ providing perhaps the best example yet of her talent and developed artistry. The song itself, underwent many changes in its early days, evolving and growing into the layered and nuanced piece of music March releases as her first single for the year. “‘Ten Days is probably the most upbeat song I’ve written. It still has a touch of dark optimism though which always creeps in. It’s not only about falling in love with someone, it’s also about falling in love with places and the feeling of something…letting it consume even though it will end, it might hurt, or you might get completely lost and never be able to quite find that same feeling again.” Sasha March
Delving further into the song’s laidback, tailor-made-for-winding-journeys vibe, the music video for ‘Ten Days’ is a result of March’s time spent on the road. From Sydney to Adelaide, Melbourne to the Netherlands, director and editor Aaron J March captures the life of an artist in a raw and honest form. “We wanted to capture the road trip vibe in an unstaged way. We used phone footage from trips, tours, parties and everyday happenings. It was a big process to get through and edit so many random collected moments. Originally we had a bunch of footage shot in a studio space to include, but it rolled better to use only the raw spontaneous phone footage!” Sasha March
Melodic and musically rich, ‘Ten Days’ is a song that provokes nostalgia and yearning. As electric guitar threads its way through crashing, vibrant percussion, March takes the listener through a diary entry of a relationship, a road trip of a narrative that winds through emotional territory masterfully. For longtime fans of March’s, this talented storyteller is expanding on some well laid songwriting foundations but for newcomers, ‘Ten Days’ is the perfect introduction.
