Saba Brothers – ‘You Should Probably Go’ Single Review

Wednesday October 27, 2021

After a series of indie-pop releases, including Smile and Can I Have This Dance, all generating nationwide airplay, healthy streaming numbers, and a loyal fanbase, the Saba boys have emerged from lockdown and recorded a considerably different kind of record.

You Should Probably Go is the first single in two years for the Sydney based trio, a pop-rock track that reflects a significant stylistic change from their previous work. Think Coldplay meets One Republic with a little of the more mainstream adult pop side of Ed Sheeran, and you get the idea.

The song is a supercharged event, with the big pay-off hooks, the boots and all gang chants, the revelatory highs, and the contemplative lows—all the ingredients that make for a rock-tinged pop no-brainer. You Should Probably Go might take its cues from the contemporary pop-rock world, but the notable point of difference is the vocal sound—and it’s the kind that can only transpire when siblings harness their natural singing wares.

The track blends a series of potent melodies, effective dynamics and varied instrumentation to create this new musical palette—acoustic guitars, rock guitars, tribal rock drums, and a multitude of ambient textures expand the track, showcasing the hooks, harmonies, and the direct yet exploratory mood of the song.

As Raymond says about the new track, ‘Our new song is about building the resilience to overcome a broken relationship.’Steve adds, ‘We wanted to capture the perspective of the fight between the brain and the heart, the brain that has all of these beautiful memories, and the heart that’s been broken by that same person who made them feel so safe.’ As Nathan says about the significance of their new release, ‘I think it is important for our audience to know that as brothers, music is something that keeps us bonded together and that our values are instilled in our music.’

You Should Probably Go reveals the band’s considerable skill set development, fused into an undeniable contemporary pop-rock experience that should appease fans and attract a whole bunch of new recruits. As Raymond says about the future, ‘We’ve released singles over the years, and our first EP in 2018, so an album is the next major creative goal.’ If the new single is any indication, the album is sure to guide the Saba Brothers skyward.
