Baby Animals and Thirsty Merc set to take centre stage
January 29, 2021
Tumut’s favourite music festival, Rock The Turf, has announced Australian music icons Baby Animals and Thirsty Merc will headline the 2021 event on Saturday 13 March at Tumut Racecourse.
The stellar line-up of artists for Rock The Turf also includes 19Twenty and The Barren Spinsters, along with local favourites Velvetsmyle, Colourz, Captain Jack and The Rhythm Sect.
Event-goers will be singing along to classic songs like “One Word”, “Early Warning” and “Rush You” from Baby Animals. The band burst onto the Australian music scene with the release of their debut album in 1991 and quickly gained worldwide acclaim. The band has opened for Van Halen and toured with the likes of Bryan Adams and The Black Crowes.
Thirsty Merc continue to cement their place in the fabric of Australia’s music landscape with 4 critically acclaimed albums, 5 ARIA Awards nominations and more than 250,000 albums sold to date. The set list will feature much-loved songs including “In the Summertime” and “Someday, Someday” as well as the band’s newer material.
Event Manager Clayton Denson said the committee has worked hard to attract the calibre of artists in this year’s line-up and is cautiously optimistic the event which provides numerous benefits to the community and region will go ahead as planned.
“We’re thrilled to have attracted another killer line-up of artists for Rock The Turf in 2021. The committee has worked hard over the past few years to build the event and we’re looking forward to the future with hope,” said Mr Denson.
“Following the disappointment of being forced to cancel last year’s event less than three weeks out, we’re planning a COVIDSafe event the whole community can get behind and support.”
After a year in which the music, events, tourism and hospitality industries have been decimated, Rock The Turf will be one of the first COVIDSafe music festivals in the region. The event will provide a much-needed morale boost for the local community as well as an economic boost for hard-hit accommodation and hospitality businesses in Tumut and the surrounding region.
The 2021 event will have a number of measures in place to minimise the risk of community transmission including a cap on overall numbers and social distancing. Additional details will be released closer to the event and will be in line with the latest government advice and restrictions.
