RJS & THE KC FACTOR – Australian songwriter Casey Pilcher’s recent collaborations with Robyn Payne, including the tracks Jimmy, Stowaway, and Dripping Down My Heart, have attracted nationwide radio play and a substantial number of streams.
Casey’s new release with RJS & The KC Factor is sure to receive the same attention and positive responses. Dead End Road is the debut single from RJS & The KC Factor, a collaboration between Casey (The KC Factor) and Robert John Sedky (RJS) and featuring the vocals of Melbourne singer and actor Matt Hetherington.
The new track is similar in style to Casey’s work with Robyn Payne—blues-based guitar-driven country-rock—with the lyric once again a stand-out feature of the song. Dead End Road’s narrative is intensified by independent Melbourne producer and composer Robert John Sedky’s dynamic guitar playing and further enhanced by Matt Hetherington’s soaring vocal performance.
As Casey says about the new release, ‘The song utilises an introductory chorus to set the story’s narrative, with softer verses to establish the concepts of the past, transit, and fate. The symbolism of the narrator evokes the image of the classic “drifter”, whose finality down the imagined “Dead End Road” is deemed set regardless of the moment.’ The themes are heightened by instrumentation—an expressive, organic sound that reflects the story—and the performances, an energetic blend of blues-rock riffs and powering rhythms, and Matt Hetherington’s blazing lead vocal.
The track’s style aligns with Casey Pilcher’s creative ethos, as he says about his work, ‘All of my songs are written to attract a wide general audience, particularly suited to radio play and streaming, but in various genres.’ Casey has also revealed a broader artistic perspective, ‘Many ideas come from the usual emotions, issues, moments, and general highs and lows of life. However, sometimes an unrelated or independent story is the focus of songwriting. For example, one recorded demo is about the early exploration of Australia and the perils and hardships endured when trying to cross it (e.g. Burke and Wills).
Two other song demos are related to war. These powerful songs will be finalised and released in due course (obviously, they will never stop being relevant).’ Dead End Road is a noteworthy release featuring three prominent Australian music artists.
