PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS release bodacious music video for ‘BILL’S MANDOLIN’

New album And Now For the Whatchamacallit out May 31st

April 24, 2019

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets continue to steamroll through 2019, releasing the visuals for their new single ‘Bill’s Mandolin’, as they approach a massive few months of touring through Australia, the UK and Europe. Offering fans another insight into the kaleidoscopic mind of songwriter Jack McEwan, the release of ‘Bill’s Mandolin’ marked a strong new chapter for the band; the new music video further solidifies their status as one of Australia’s most exciting and ambitious rock groups out.

Taken from their forthcoming third studio album, And Now For The Whatchamacallit (out May 31st through Caroline Australia/Marathon Artists), ‘Bill’s Mandolin’ was inspired by a mandolin that belonged to McEwan’s grandad, Bill.

An heirloom that became very much a part of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets last UK/European run, as it travelled with the band in making its journey back to Australia. “I carried it through plenty of customs, slept with it, took it out to pubs, navigated the streets of Amsterdam and passed out with it. It became the tour emblem and once I got back to Perth I felt like I’d done the old girl justice. I wanted to write an ode to Bill and the travels with the mandolin that summed up the tour and sounded as chaotic as the adventures that ensued.“
Jack McEwan, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

Recorded between Jack McEwan’s bedroom and Tone City Studios in Perth, mixed by Michael Jelinek (Gunns) and mastered by John Davis (Gorillaz, The Killers)And Now For The Whatchamacallit is easily Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ most anticipated release yet. “The original concept was to take a 1930’s carnival that had been re-imagined for future generations, a collage of Punch and Judy, Carousels and coconut shy’s that progresses in musical concepts and travels with the listener. Then as we started traveling I was swept off into my own kind of circus, the odyssey of touring life. Large nights out, larger characters, drunken recollections of foreign cities and rabbit hole-ing into insanity (kindly illustrated by Quentin Blake)”.

PRAISE FOR PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS

“While the world’s been getting itself ready to fully embrace PPC, this band’s been quietly (or not, if you’ve seen ‘em play) getting to the peak of their powers as players and songwriters. Tell you what, now that our collective eyes and ears are open to the band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are ready to make it count.”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

“Combining overblown riffs with sprawling guitar solos, the track is a fearless and relentless rock anthem…”
The Line of Best Fit (‘Keen For Kick Ons?’, 2019)

“That’s the genius of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, they’ll tax you with treacle, all through clever song structures, hammering fuzz and prodigious tonal manipulation.”
Total Guitar

“It’s colorful, explosive, and conveys the chemistry of four creatives who  just want to bring fun to your ears.”
Aupium Magazine (‘Bill’s Mandolin’, 2019)

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ schedule until that point is nothing short of bursting at the seams. The tailend of April sees the Perth band’s extensive 2019 tour schedule kick off with the Hunter Valley’s Gum Ball Festival, before they return to international audiences, where The Great Escape and 19 shows throughout the UK and Europe await. Headlining their own shows in the UK, while also appearing at selected festivals including All Points East in London alongside The Strokes and The Chemical Brothers, and supporting Interpol in Germany, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ international footprint continues to strengthen in its permanence.

2018 saw the group take this momentum to the USA for the first time, impressing at SXSWand selling out shows in both LA and New York. Now, with a new album and a blistering new live show ready to burn, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have lined up some of their biggest and most ambitious shows yet; Australian fans will see them play their biggest shows with RAAVE TAPES in June and hit Splendour in the Grass in July, before they head to Japan for Tokyo and Osaka’s prominent Summersonic Festival in August.
