‘Hello at Home’ and ‘Less’
May 29, 2020
Hello at Home and Less are two songs released as a double A sided single from Pesky Bones. Pesky Bones is the artist name for Boom Crash Opera songwriter Peter Farnan.
The video for Hello at Home features spectacular drone footage of Melbourne. Farnan says, ‘It’s one man alone, marooned on a roof, but in a sea of roofs. And it’s a beautiful day.’
The video was shot by Farnan’s brother, Mike, on Tuesday this week and edited by Farnan, himself. All work was performed while observing strict social distancing protocols (and CASA regulations).
Farnan says, ‘These songs and videos were made at home while the world has been at home. It is art made in isolation about isolation for isolated audiences.’

Pesky Bones Volume One (released in 2016) featured a crop of leading Australian recording and theatre artists, including Paul Kelly, Deborah Conway, Paul Capsis, Ali Barter and Tim Rogers. On this release Farnan performs alone.
“The songs are what the title, Less, says; less of everything, less people, less instruments, less time, less resources. In March I was in the middle of a giant 4-month festival tour opening for Hunters and Collectors. Suddenly I’m in a small home studio wondering, like many of us, what happened and what’s next?”
Farnan explains, ‘Hello at Home refers to tele-conferencing, homelessness, the fall of capitalism, bad hairdos, the US president and evangelical’s obsession with the apocalypse … all with a jaunty beat.
Less, is a minimalist study of how we might get by with less of everything. I want us to celebrate, communicate and stay in touch with ourselves and each other. It’s not the end of times just yet.’
