I OH YOU and Frontier Touring proudly present Out Of Bounds, a fest for Sydney’s south west.
ABOUT OUT OF BOUNDS
Out Of Bounds is a new music festival that has been built from the ground-up for the Macarthur/Campbelltown region. The inaugural event will take place on Saturday 18 January at the Campbelltown Athletics Centre on the running track that many people from the area (including the festival’s founders) have grown up using for their school athletics carnival.
The festival’s goal is to bring some of Australia’s most exciting musical talents to the heart of the south west suburbs and create a top-tier music festival that area’s youth can call their own.
The Macarthur region sits an hour or so south-west of Sydney. Mayor of Campbelltown Cr George Brticevic said “We are delighted to welcome a brand new music festival to the area headlined by some of Australia’s best-known artists, including local superstars, The Rubens. Hosting a music festival of this magnitude at the Campbelltown Athletics Centre is a sign that our city is bursting to life with opportunity.”
Across two stages from 1.00-10.00pm, the first ever Out Of Bounds features a blistering all-Australian line-up which traverses multiple genres, aimed at uniting people from all walks of life in the diversity-rich area. Co-headlining the 2020 event will be hip-hop hit maker and ARIA Award-winning artist Illy, alongside the Macarthur region’s very own hometown heroes and Hottest 100-topping, The Rubens.
They’re joined by a plethora of exciting Australian artists such as Mallrat, Trophy Eyes, WAAX, Alex the Astronaut, GRAACE, Clypso, Lex Deluxe along with DJ sets from party-starters DZ Deathrays & Northeast Party House.
About I OH YOU
I OH YOU was founded by Johann Ponniah and has grown to become one of the country’s most acclaimed and successful independent record labels. Having the opportunity to be part of the Australian (and global) music industry for 10 years, I OH YOU are keen to head back to Campbelltown and give back to the community which helped shape the framework and ethos of the label.
The label will also be offering a young person from the area a paid internship at I OH YOU. The internship’s role includes working with the local council to begin regularly conducting panels with some of Australia’s finest musicians and industry professionals in the local area in 2020.

ILLY
Illy needs no introduction. One of the biggest names in Aussie hip-hop is finally back with new single ‘Then What’, the first taste of his upcoming sixth studio album (though Sony). His meteoric rise to this point sits on the back of tracks like the 2x platinum ‘Tightrope’ and 5x platinum ‘Papercuts (feat. Vera Blue)’, and ‘Catch 22 (feat. Anne-Marie)’, as well as his ARIA #1 album Two Degrees. The rapper is hugely in-demand on the live circuit, headlining theatres and festivals around the country, picking up awards along the way including the 2017 ARIA for Best Live Act.

THE RUBENS
Hailing from Camden within the Macarthur region, The Rubens are mainstays at the very top of Australian music. They broke onto the scene with their now-platinum 2012 self-titled debut, featuring ‘Lay It Down’ and ‘My Gun’, before gold second record Hoops launched them into the stratosphere in 2015 with tracks like ‘Hallelujah’ and Hottest 100 #1 ‘Hoops’. Their third album LO LA RU (through Ivy League Records) arrived last year, packed with even more hits, like ‘Million Man’, ‘God Forgot’, and double-platinum smash, ‘Never Ever (feat. Sarah)’. Most recently, they embraced their hip-hop inspirations head-on with ‘Falling Asleep At The Wheel’, a track that features U.S. hip-hop star, Vic Mensa, and ticked off another bucket list item with an iconic MTV Unplugged performance.

MALLRAT
In just a few short years, Mallrat has become a beacon of hope in Australian music. With a unique songwriting gift and an authentic, grounded persona, it’s little surprise that she’s racked up millions of streams and a trophy cabinet full of accolades. Her third EP, Driving Music (through Dew Process), has just been released, featuring stunning lead single ‘Charlie’. It follows the undeniable success of her first two EPs, Uninvited and In The Sky, which featured singles like ‘Uninvited’, ‘Better’, ‘UFO (feat. Allday)’, and platinum single ‘Groceries’, the latter of which landed at #7 in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2018. In the last year she’s toured with King Princess, Maggie Rogers, and Allday, sold out her own headline shows, and released Basenji collaboration ‘Nobody’s Home’.

TROPHY EYES
Newcastle five-piece Trophy Eyes have had a massive year on the back of their critically acclaimed third album The American Dream (through Hopeless Records), featuring ‘You Can Count On Me’, ‘Lavender Bay’, and ‘Friday Forever’. Their heart-wrenching rock anthems have seen them sell out theatres at home and abroad, perform with artists like Bring Me The Horizon, Blink 182, Billie Eilish, and DMA’S, and appear at massive festivals like Splendour In The Grass, Reading & Leeds, and more. They picked up a triple j Feature Album and overwhelming praise from critics around the world including 5/5 in NME, 9/10 from Rock Sound, and 4K from Kerrang!.

WAAX
Brissie punks WAAX released their blistering debut record Big Grief just a few short weeks ago (through Dew Process), picking up the Feature Album slot at triple j and receiving a ton of love across the board. Written with Bernard Fanning and Grammy Award-winning producer Nick DiDia, it’s packed with big riffs and explosive energy, but it’s singer Maz DeVita’s voice that gives the band that special something. The album features singles ‘I Am’, ‘FU’, and the hugely popular ‘Labrador’, and follows on from 2017 EP Wild & Weak, featuring ‘Same Same’ and ‘This Everything’. Their reputation as a live band precedes them, packed with electrifying intensity and captivating, barely-controlled chaos.

ALEX THE ASTRONAUT
Singer-songwriter, sports star, and science nerd Alex The Astronaut has cultivated a huge audience on festival stages and at headline shows by weaving personal truths into universal issues and laying them bare with her voice and her guitar, capturing the ordinary and extraordinary of everyday life. Sometimes wry and playful, other times candid and poignant, look no further than breakout tracks ‘Already Home’, ‘Waste Of Time’, ‘Happy Song’ and recent hit ‘Not Worth Hiding’, an open letter to her 16-year-old self about owning her sexuality, to feel the gravity of her music despite its simple, folk-inflected pop arrangements. Her latest single is ‘I Like To Dance’, which tackles the devastation of domestic violence.

GRAACE
She’s been writing songs since she was a kid, but GRAACE’s big break came when she co-wrote and featured on Hayden James’ 2017 track ‘Numb’, which eventually went on to go platinum in Australia. She joined Flight Facilities as their touring vocalist on their 2018 world tour, before releasing her own debut single, ‘Kissing Boys’ and eventually her debut EP, Self Sabotage (through Sony). Two more singles have followed this year in the form of ‘Have Fun At Your Party’ and ‘21st Century Love’, and she recently covered Avril Lavigne’s ‘Complicated’ for triple j’s Like A Version.

CLYPSO
Sydney-based producer and vocalist CLYPSO has been generating quite the buzz in recent times with her hyperactive beats, grimey basslines, and tropical electronica, or as she describes it, “troppo chilli flakes”. Her cheeky samples and glistening synths meld beautifully with jungle beats on tracks like ‘Pop Roll Flow’, ‘Bounty’ and Kwame collab ‘Middle Ground’, earning her nods from the likes of triple j (Unearthed Artist of the Week) and FBi Radio (Independent Artist of the Week), and scoring her festival slots at Listen Out, Spilt Milk, Festival of the Sun, Lost Paradise, Meredith, and more.

LEX DELUXE
A mainstay of the Sydney DJ scene, Lex Deluxe is a connoisseur of all things movement. Jumping from genre to genre without breaking the groove, it’s no wonder that she’s been called up for appearances at festivals like This That and Groovin’ The Moo, as well as for support slots with legendary names from all pockets of dance music like The Presets, Confidence Man, Total Giovanni, DJ Seinfeld and CC:DISCO!. Not constrained to DJing, Lex is also sitting on a backlog of thumping tunes of her own that pair 4-to-the-floor beats with rare and wacky samples.

DZ DEATHRAYS (DJ SET)
It’s been a big couple of years for Australia’s favourite thrash rock band DZ Deathrays, who just dropped their fourth studio album Positive Rising: Part 1 (through I OH YOU). Featuring singles ‘IN-TO-IT’, ‘Year Of The Dog (feat. Matt Caughthran)’ and ‘Still No Change’, it’s their first record since welcoming long-time live guitarist Lachlan Ewbank to the band. Before that there was their collaboration with Briggs, Trials, and Jesswar, ‘Front Row Hustle’, a huge 10 year anniversary tour with PUP and their massive third album Bloody Lovely. They’ve collected numerous awards over the years, including a handful of ARIAs, been favourites on the festival circuit and in triple j’s Hottest 100, and even supported the Foo Fighters. Not bad for a band that started out playing house parties in Brisbane.

NORTHEAST PARTY HOUSE (DJ SET)
High-energy dance band Northeast Party House recently returned with huge new single ‘Magnify’ (produced by the band and Kim Moyes of The Presets) and the news of their first national tour in two years. In 2016, they released their second record Dare (through Stop Start), featuring singles ‘Calypso Beach’, ‘Heartbreaker’, and ‘For You’, adding to their reputation for energetic, sweat-charged performances, originally built on massive tracks like ‘The Haunted’ and ‘Youth Allowance’ from their debut record Any Given Weekend.
