When asked what his new single Baby was about, singer-songwriter and vocalist extraordinaire Mario Vayne had this to say, ‘Taking a chance and believing in yourself and daring to take a risk, giving love a second chance. It’s about what the world needs now, good positive vibes.’
When learning Vayne’s backstory, it’s evident that the Queensland-based musician believes in the lyric’s primary focus. His musical journey began at seven, a path nurtured by the artistic heritage of his Italian ancestry. His early influences and inspirations derived from some of the rock genre’s greatest exponents, including Cheap Trick, Kiss, The Sweet, Little River Band, The Babys, and Foreigner.
There are echoes of these luminaries in the overall sound of Vayne’s debut offering, Baby, with its anthemic edge, passionate vocal performance, and a stadium-level big chorus. And, of course, the guitar-driven energy. Baby features a direct and inviting lyric, dynamic melodies, and a commanding vocal performance; it may sound like a retro-flavoured record, and it is, but it also contains a clear, contemporary shine, which makes the track even more compelling.
From the onset, Mario revealed signs of prodigious talent, penning his debut melody at the tender age of eleven—his fervour for the six-string serving as a relentless engine of creativity. Yet, his innate prowess largely remained under wraps, his introverted nature acting as an unwitting cloak of invisibility.
As he navigated the early stages of his career, Mario’s effulgence lighted up the pub and club circuit, leaving a trail of captivated listeners in his wake. His impressive vocal range commanded attention as he fronted various ensembles across Australia and the United Kingdom. However, the seismic shift in musical tastes brought about by the grunge revolution of the mid-90s prompted a brief hiatus from his sonic journey. Even so, the creative embers within him never extinguished—and Baby is the result.
