Little Quirks unveil spectacular new single & video ‘The Rain’

BAND SHOWCASING AT SXSW AND THE GREAT ESCAPE, NEW LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

March 14, 2022

Little Quirks – sisters Abbey and Mia and their cousin Jaymi – are delighted to release their first new music of 2022, with powerful and uplifting track, The Rain.

Singer/guitarist Abbey Toole said today, “Since I was very young, I have had a deep love for the rain; for the sound, the relief and the excitement its always brings me. Whenever I wake up and it’s raining, it always makes me very happy. This song was written on a stormy night in my bedroom. I just imagined being out there running and dancing around in it and this song came out. We actually recorded a lot of this song in our home studio in the backyard which is our favourite place to record.

“For the ‘Hey Ya’s’ in the chorus, we wanted a big, roomy chant so we hired The Grove Studios near our house. Everyone in the session that day (including the sound engineers and producer) sung the chorus as a big group. We’re really happy how it turned out.

“I decided I wanted rain to feature in the video for the track somehow. Director Tim Swallow brought that idea to life using a barge and a rain machine which is basically just a fire hose and pump! We nearly froze while shooting, it was a cold day! But the video turned out well in the end. The track is epic, so we wanted an epic video to go with it. And we were very lucky with the sunset we got that day!”

Watch ‘The Rain’

Director Tim Swallow explains, “The making of ‘The Rain’ music video was a challenging, yet awesome experience. Producer Federica Genovesi, Cinematographer Mondo Hays and I watched the weather forecast carefully weeks before the shoot as we knew it was paramount to our moody aesthetic.

“Along with this, we had a lot of moving parts such as a 40ft Barge, tugboat, rowboat and a vintage Mercedes. It was ambitious to fit so much into one day of shooting, but I wanted the clip to build momentum. It seemed logical that each talent should have their own story prior to all performing as a band on the barge.

“I said to Mondo the day before, “the weather could potentially make or break this clip.” We were blessed with four seasons in one day and an insane sunset, everyone on set was in awe as the sky lit up.  We did get some patches of rain throughout the day however as the last of the light disappeared over the hills, we decided to crank up the rain machine and cinematic lights for our dramatic ending.

“By the time we arrived back at port we were wet, exhausted, sun burnt but completely satisfied.”

The Central Coast trio will release a fourth EP in 2022, their first for ABC Music, featuring last year’s folk/pop singles Florence’s Town and Someone To Hold.  Their 2018 single Crumbled has been a runaway favourite on Spotify with over 3 million streams and they have amassed a loyal following for their powerful and distinctive DIY videos on YouTube, including an impressive version of ABBA’s “SOS”.

Signing recently to US label Glassnote, Little Quirks have just headed overseas for showcases at Austin’s SXSW, Houston, Nashville and New York. The band has also signed up with Jamila Lyndon at Wasserman Agency (Tones & I, Handsome Ghost) for US bookings.

“Little Quirks have wild energy onstage, and they write such incredible songs too. We’re very proud to be Glassnote label-mates with this amazing band.” Josh Teskey, The Teskey Brothers.
