‘COVER MY EYES’ – Album Review
REVIEWER – Ben Nicol
With the deadly dual vocals of First Aid Kit and upbeat folk tunes akin to Of Monsters and Men, Little Quirks, even at their young age, are already proving to be the complete package. Their latest EP, Cover My Eyes, is another strong step forward for sisters, Abbey and Mia Toole, and their cousins, Jaymi and Alex.
The five-song EP opens and closes with their most accessible indie folk-pop tracks, Cover My Eyes and Devils Ivy. Tucked inside is Bury Our Bones, an artfully subdued and melancholic ballad that is carried by Little Quirks’ strongest asset, their harmonies. It’s a mesmerising tune that subtlety layers vocal lines to create beautiful and soothing tone.
The instrumentation is textbook indie folk and will sound very familiar to fans of the genre. However, the Central Coast group use their catchy melodies and enchanting harmonies to give it their own unique flare. Still in the early days of their career, Little Quirks are a joyful act that should be taken seriously. This EP guarantees they’re ones to watch out for.
Cover My Eyes is available on all music platforms Friday 24th January.
