Yours & Owls and the Australian Government Office for the Arts, Festivals Australia Program are thrilled to present Healing Truth, an exciting new and immersive art installation based on a series of poems by Yuin writer, Kaitlen Wellington. Featuring Kaitlen Wellington, Damien Lane, Russel Webster, Laurens Tan, Jay Drury and the Mudjingaal Yangamba choir.
Healing Truth is being presented for the first time at the Lazy Mountain Music and Arts Festival April 8th, at Berry Showgrounds.
Incorporating music, sound design and animation as well as poetry, the work explores themes of intergenerational trauma and healing, acknowledging the difficult history for first Nations people in the Berry region. In a cultural context, it’s a symbolic representation of clearing out dead language with new language (culture and song).
Kaitlen has collaborated with musicians Russell Webster (Shining Bird), film composer Damien Lane, artist and animator Laurens Tan and the Shoalhaven-based Mudjingaal Yangamba choir, to create an immersive and unique experience for audiences.

Kaitlen Wellington
Kaitlen Wellington is a Yuin woman, who is an emerging writer and poet. She is passionate about traditional and contemporary ways of storytelling. Her creative expression reflects her personal Journey as she utilises contemporary forms of storytelling to heal and reclaim her narrative. Kaitlen experiments with different forms such as poetry, prose, play, visual arts and sound, as her intuition guides the creative process. She has worked with Bundanon Trust creating an installation, ‘True Reflections’, and has had poems ‘calbunya initiation’ & ‘spirits hope’ published in Guwayu – For All Times and, ‘It’s about time’ & ‘Lost Booraiwaluwala’ published in the Australian Poetry Journal.
Laurens Tan
Laurens Tan is a 3D practitioner in art and design working in Wollongong, Beijing and Las Vegas. Contemporary survey exhibitions in Beijing: Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Fat Art 2010 (Today Art Museum), Red Gate and PKM Galleries; the Kuandu University Art Museum, Taiwan; Seoul National University Museum of Art, Gana Gallery at Seoul Square; Boston ICA & 11 US Art Museums; touring exhibitions in Australia & China (2012-13) and Canada (2012-15) with solo exhibitions in Las Vegas, NY, Paris, Miami. Most recent acquisitions: Deakin University, Melbourne, Barrick Museum of Art, Las Vegas and the Smart Museum, Chicago.
Damien Lane
Damien Lane is an APRA award winning and AACTA nominated film composer. Recent work includes scoring two series for ABC TV in 2022; production for the Australian Music Prize-nominated album ‘We Need to Be Free’ by Jodi Phillis (The Clouds), film collaboration ‘Dysrhythmia’ with visual artist Tamara Dean; and a work to be performed at the Sydney Opera House in 2024. 2023 will see Damien release an album of instrumental music on the Strange Loops label, following the recent single ‘Ventura’. He is also the founder and principal songwriter of guitar-based band Dropping Honey.
Russell Webster
Russell Webster is a composer, producer and songwriter from Austinmer. Alongside his solo out put he is involved in a variety of projects including Shining Bird, Tropical Strength, The M1 and Ernest Ellis. Using a selection of analogue synths, acoustic instruments and manipulated samples, Russell creates immersive sound environments that often evoke the landscape in which he lives and works on the South coast of NSW.”
