Back when Sydney had a thriving music scene, the pubs and bars fostered a heap of talent who often went on to bigger and better things. Lachy Doley moved from Adelaide as a teenager and found himself working with the cream of inner-city Sydney’s soul-funk-blues-whatever scene – which very quickly led to sideman stints with some of Australia’s biggest artists such as Powderfinger, Wolf Mother, Jimmy Barnes, Billy Thorpe and Bernard Fanning to name a few.
Since those days Lachy has gone on to be hailed as one of the most important and celebrated new Blues/Soul Hammond Organ players in the world. His killer band of Jackie Barnes (drums) and Joel Burton (bass) have built an incredible following one sold out room at a time, and they’ve become regulars on international blues, jazz and good music festivals such as Montreal Jazz, Bospop and more.
The Lachy Doley Group are proud to announce the release of their 5th Album ‘Make or Break’ and will be heading out on a national tour to get people excited about it.
The chemistry between the trio is palpable throughout ‘Make or Break’ as they flex their musical muscle around a set of killer riffs, stinky grooves, and slow-burning blues.
The live sound of the group and Doley’s testifying baritone vocal have been perfectly captured in the studio and this album is likely to be a hit with fans of the band’s high-energy live shows.
The album was produced by Lachy and Kieran Collings, recorded by Ted Howard (Yothu Yindi Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers), mixed by Paul McKercher(Josh Pyke, Papa Vs Pretty, Sarah Blasko, You Am I, Eskimo Joe), and was mastered by the Grammy Award-winning Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Ray LaMontagne, Royal Blood, Biffo Clyro).
“Makes u feel good the way he plays that clavinet” – BOOTSY COLLINS
“The greatest living keyboard player in the world today” – GLENN HUGHES (Deep Purple)
“Come on!!!! Is Lachy the greatest thing you’ve ever heard or what?!?!?” – BILLY SHEEHAN
“No one plays like Lachy. He is amazing. – JIMMY BARNES
‘Make or Break’ is available on Only Blues Music from March 1, and is now available for pre-order here: http://smarturl.it/lachydoley

Their previous album CONVICTION reached #5 on the UK Blues Broadcasters Charts, #1 on the Australian iTunes Blues Charts and #1 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts. Along with their 3rd tour of Europe/UK plus their tour of Canada in 2017 was a huge year for The Lachy Doley Group. The Lachy Doley Group are a unique sound in the classic and sometimes very traditional genre of the Blues. A power trio consisting of Joel Burton on Bass, Jackie Barnes on Drums and of course Doley firing on the Hammond, his vocal screaming from the heart and the incredibly rare Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet in which most people double take on when they realise that sound isn’t an electric guitar but a 70 stringed keyboard with a huge Whammy Bar sticking out the guts of it. |
