Emerging from the punk underbelly of LA’s South Bay in 1979, Keith Morris (Black Flag, OFF!) and Greg Hetson (Red Kross, Bad Religion) formed Circle Jerks, who quickly became the innovators of a movement simply referred to today as HARDCORE PUNK ROCK.
Sean St Leone sat down for a chat with Greg Hetson ahead of their Australian tour with Pennywise that kicks off this week including a show in Wollongong at UOW UniHall next Tuesday 20th September.
“So you guys have been playing a lot lately, I’ve been watching a few of your live YouTube videos and one of the things I’ve noticed which sets you apart is you guys are going full throttle. You’re not just going through the motions. We get a lot of bands that have been around a long time coming out here seemingly just collecting a pay check. With you guys that’s not going on, you guys are going balls to the wall from start to finish.”
“Yeah we are a bunch of old geezers collecting a pay check but we don’t want to embarrass ourselves haha. We all knew going into this that people could possibly expect to see us going through motions and we’re like, we’re not gonna do that, we came in very prepared.”
“It’s very obvious from watching the videos that you guys, from start to finish it’s just 110 percent which is really nice to see. I get the feeling that come next week when we see you guys, we’re all gonna be pretty stunned by how good you are.”
