Anita’s Theatre, an iconic and historic venue in New South Wales, is proud to announce a number of structural upgrades, as part of the landmark venue’s commitment to establishing itself as a critical live entertainment destination. Since Live Nation, the global leader of live entertainment, took over operations of the venue in June 2023, Anita’s Theatre has become a hub for domestic and international live music and comedy acts within Thirroul and greater Illawarra.
Live Nation has invested in the development of the 1200-capacity venue, ensuring the magnetism of Anita’s Theatre, maintained by its rich history and local cultural significance, is preserved while also providing both artists and fans with the facilities and technology to enjoy world-class live entertainment experiences. In partnership with Pro Sound and Lighting, Anita’s Theatre has installed a state-of-the-art D&B sound system in the venue, signalling a new era of production excellence.
Paired with the theatre’s upgrade of the stage lighting system, Anita’s Theatre now offers a world-class standard of production.Anita’s Theatre has also invested in a crowd safety barrier for General Admission shows. This investment is part of the venue’s ongoing dedication to the safe conduct of its shows and enables the theatre to conduct an increased variety of concerts due to this new safety capability.
Anita’s Theatre is dedicated to remaining a keystone venue for local events and exhibitions within the Illawarra region. The main foyer has seen lighting, audio, staging and furniture upgrades that transform the space into an all-new event space. In this hosting mode, the space is renamed ‘The Kings Room’ – paying homage to The Kings Theatre, the original occupier of the site.Boasting a 120-person capacity, The Kings Room will host comedy, cabaret, and talent showcases.
The space is also available for private cocktail parties, product launches, or small exhibitions for local community members.Local Thirroul band ‘Stunts’ christened the space, hosting their album launch at the venue. Finally, Anita’s back of house is also being upgraded, providing artists with a comfortable space to prepare for shows. These renovations are kicking off with the installation of air-conditioning in the dressing rooms and green room, followed by a new kitchenette.
