AND ANNOUNCE SINGLE LAUNCH SHOWS
July 04, 2019
Genre mashing alt-rock acrobats He Danced Ivy yesterday premiered their wild new single, ‘Toothcutter‘, due for release Friday July 5, which is every bit as eclectic as the last with its blend of hybrid genres, maniacally driven infectious rhythm, a powerful vocal performance and bitingly relatable lyrics. The band are also today announcing their short, sharp single launch tour that will take the band to Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle.
“Toothcutter” is a beastly track that revolves around the theme of conformity-induced frustration and the desire to give in to addictive cycles that ultimately reject true connection. Abstract imagery is abundant when front man Dave Cheney vents: “I can’t tell if I’m filling fangs or cutting my teeth“, sarcastically jabbing at the notion that substances will aid in becoming ones ‘best self’.
Cheney delves deeper in to the words that give the track its backbone by countering the former line with “… the lines ‘And I finally see eye to eye with my demons … but life’s a beach if you’re a chemical leech’ [which criticise] giving in to using substances in place of personal growth, further re-enforced by the line ‘Ambition is a dirty word’. This song is brash, unapologetic and unflinchingly willing to make a point about the curse of addiction to individuality in the 21st century.”
He Danced Ivy’s single launch tour will begin on Friday August 2 at Whole Lotta Love in Melbourne before making its way to Brisbane on Friday August 9 for a hometown set at Black Bear Lodge and finally to Newcastle on Sunday August 11 to round things out at The Cambridge.
He Danced Ivy is Dave Cheney (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Sean Rudner (Lead guitar/Vocals), Mitch Hart (Bass/Vocals) and Josh Hayes (Drums/Percussion/Vocals) and together the band has garnered a cult reputation with their unique and exciting sound and electric live show.
Since relocating to Brisbane from Coffs Harbour in 2016, the quartet have progressively refined their uniquely quirky take on Australian alt-rock with a dark, brooding maturity that oozes across their discography.
The group’s willingness to experiment has attracted recognition from media worldwide and their theatrics has evoked comparisons to heavy weights acts such as At The Drive-In, Queens Of The Stone Age, Panic! At The Disco and Queen.
The group’s effortlessly tight performances and charisma have charmed audiences and attracted rave reviews following supports for international and local powerhouse acts including Polyphia (USA), Intervals (USA), Circa Survive (USA), Protest The Hero (CAN), Twelve Foot Ninja, Dead Letter Circus, Stand Atlantic, Mammal, Caligula’s Horse and Columbus; Festival appearances include Progfest, Halloween Hysteria and Banana Field Music Festival. They have been selected for RAGE’s ‘Wild Ones’, received triple j radio play and has been consistently added to triple j Unearthed radio rotation.
‘Toothcutter’ is out Friday July 5th and will be available on all digital stores and streaming platforms.Tickets to the Brisbane single launch show can be purchased at Eventbrite, the Melbourne show is Free Entry and details can be found at the Facebook event page – and the details for the Newcastle show are forthcoming!
