Grayson – Unsolved Mystery “Single Review”

Friday February 4th, 2022

Country musician Grayson, aka Michael Edser, spent his childhood in Australia, developing his musicianship and songwriting.

The global music artist has just released Unsolved Mystery, his first new track in two years. After establishing a following in Australia, Grayson toured the US and Europe extensively. He secured a contract with Rifle Range Records, eventually relocating to Ireland at the beginning of 2009.

In 2011 Grayson relocated to the US and signed a publishing, album, and management deal in Nashville with Busy at Play Publishing, owned and operated by Garth Brook’s guitar player, Johnny Garcia. In 2009 his first singles, Stand Clear and Change, impacted the charts, and soon, aseries of releases followed, including the albums, Somewhere in the NightChronologyLittle DoorsBroken Hearts & Broken Bones and Window Dreams. Now based in Nashville and continuing to solidify his reputation as a session musician, songwriter and producer, Grayson’s new track Unsolved Mystery is an accessible contemporary country-pop record with a well-considered lyric.

The theme explored here is the random, unexpected aspects of a relationship and the subsequent fall-out of its dissolution. It features a cogent blend of organic elements, including guitars, strings, vocal harmonies, and percussion, with a self-assured vocal performance at the helm, one that aptly reflects the nature of the lyric and its imagery.

The song utilises a list-style lyric, communicating a deceptively complex set of circumstances without resorting to too much high drama and sentimentality. However, these characteristics are often difficult to avoid when exploring such a subject and part of the overall appeal of the style. The track is more pop than country, but it straddles both genres with suitable conviction.

Unsolved Mystery is sure to connect with many, its subject matter easy to grasp despite its focus on what is not so easy to accept or understand—loss.
