Forces & Fury make a searing return with dark new single, ‘Watch It Burn’!

July 09, 2019

After making a solid impact with their debut single ‘Stormy Weather’, Sydney’s Forces & Fury return with another searing right hook punch, in new single ‘Watch It Burn’. Featuring Stellar Addiction vocalist Stacey Stellar, the song sees Forces & Fury (Kat Ayala and Astrid Holz) explore intense alternative-indie sounds, as the duo’s songwriting dynamic continues to flourish.

The lure of desire and excitement of temptation and risk forms the foundation of ‘Watch It Burn’, with rumbling notes courtesy of the rhythmic bass lines and guitars providing an intoxicating atmosphere for the listener to immerse themselves in.

“‘Watch It Burn’ is our darkest and most intense song yet. It’s about desire, and the willingness to risk everything in order to acquire the object of that passion. You’ll hear our signature heavy drums, eerie synths, driving bass lines, layers of effect-heavy guitars, plus a searing solo at the bridge.” Forces & Fury

An honest and direct representation of the duo’s strength as musicians and production minds, ‘Watch It Burn’ may be the band’s darkest single yet, however the jamming nature of the song exemplifies the ease of which Holz and Ayala sit in the pocket when they bounce music off one another. Having established a formidable career in Sydney with RACKETT, Forces & Fury has become a fresh avenue of music for the duo to embark upon, and the results thus far have proven to be equal parts detailed and exciting. “With a heavy driving bassline and simple, yet huge sounding drums, this particular track is strongly influenced by our obsession with 90s trip-hop. The track has a dark, almost creepy and foreboding tone to it, created by soaring whale-song synths and smooth guitar lines with plenty of washing reverb and delay.”Forces & Fury

As with ‘Stormy Weather’, the band recorded their latest in the Philippines at Sound Creation Studios before bringing the music back to Sydney to be worked on in their Marrickville studio. Working with Stacey Stellar on ‘Watch It Burn’ elevated the intensity of the song, bringing one of Sydney’s favourite pop punk voices into the Forces & Fury fold for one helluva joyride. “We’ve known Stacey for a long time, from sharing line-ups with her on the pop punk scene and have always wanted to work with her. It was such a treat to watch her bring her attitude and prowess to the song and take it to the next level. She absolutely slayed it.” Forces & Fury

Bringing their attention to a conversation close to their heart, the music video for ‘Watch It Burn’ has an extra layer of impact to it. Matching the intensity of the single on screen, Holz and Ayala collaborated with siblings Justin and Erin Latimer (‘Stormy Weather’), as well as family and loved ones to bring their narrative to life. “We wanted to take a look at discrimination and simplify it to its true form of utter ridiculousness. Being queer females, and one of us an immigrant, discrimination is something we deal with on the daily; be it on the music scene, in technological spheres, at work, or during a night out. The world has improved in our lifetime but we still have a long way to go. As Forces & Fury, it’s always in our game plan to be proactive about positive change.” Forces & Fury

PRAISE FOR FORCES & FURY

“They got the title right on this one! It’s all brooding skies and numbing downpour. Cool to hear this first taste of Forces & Fury!”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe (‘Stormy Weather’, 2019)

“Their foray into a new sonic lane via the music of Forces & Fury encapsulates an energetic but intelligent approach to songwriting. It’s a project that’s entirely their own, with a sound exactly that’s specifically crafted to their own personal ears and inclinations.”
Kill Your Stereo

“Their debut single is the warbly, transcendental ‘Stormy Weather’…the track simmers in a bold and brooding mystique.”
