With sonic nods to 80s new wave and post-punk, Sydney based quintet DROVES return with a highly danceable and introspective track, ‘View’, premiered via triple j unearthed TOPS. This is the first single release in lead up to their upcoming EP Nostalgia set for release in August.
Inspired by the notion of rumination and the effects of memories has on one’s subconscious self, Taylor McAuliffe, DROVES’ lead vocalist, explains: “We wrote this song as an expression of that realisation of the fake reality nostalgia provides us with, and the negative impact this can have on all of us unconsciously. ‘View’ serves as a source of encouragement to let go and challenge ourselves outside of our comfort zones to experience everything life has to offer.”

The 5 piece band have been keeping busy since their debut in 2018 at Yours & Owls Festival that saw them playing alongside Hockey Dad, Peking Duk and The Jungle Giants. Comparative to The Presets, Foals and Midnight Oil, DROVES continue to evolve their sound as they pave the way blending anthemic punk aesthetics with synth-driven soundscapes.
DROVES have since released hit tracks such as ‘Cannibals’ and ‘Retribution’ that have all received support from triple j and triple j Unearthed, as well as various community radio stations including 2Ser, FBi Radio, RTRFM, Radio Adelaide and more. The band have also received notable praise from rage, NME Australia, The Music and Pilerats who boasted them as one of the best acts to come out 2019.
With more releases under their belt, single launches and an EP – 2021 is sure to be one of the most anticipated years for DROVES yet.
