The new single release for Canadian-born singer-songwriter Crystal McGrath is another contemporary country-pop crossover. Test Drive is not so much a detour from her previous explorations of positivity and self-empowerment, such as can be heard on one of her last single releases, Game On, but an extension.
Following a successful run of hit singles, including last year’s About A Boy, Back to Never, and All of These Things, Crystal McGrath’s new one is yet another amalgamation of her hybrid country-pop rock style, utilising a modern rock groove as a foundation to a series of hooks, sass, dynamic energy, and Crystal’s typically on-point vocal performance.
As well as attracting significant media attention, Crystal’s tracks were added to radio and digital streaming platforms, including Sirius XM CBC Country Channel 171 in the United States and Canada, and featured on the Academy of Country Music’s highly esteemed New Music Friday playlist.
Crystal has been featured in prominent media outlets such as COWGIRL Magazine, VENTS Magazine, Music Crowns, and PopWrapped. The music video for About A Boy exclusively premiered on powerhouse media outlet SCENES Media, CMT/MTV (Australia) and featured on over 150 Australian radio stations, including the Commercial Country Network’s Triple M and KIX radio.
As Crystal says about Test Drive, ‘Thematically the song is about a girl comparing the dating scene to test driving new cars, trying to find the perfect fit to bring into her life.’ Produced by JUNO-award-winning Canadian mixer and producer Spencer Cheyne, Test Drive is a powerful remedy to heartbreak, loaded with country-pop brilliance and beaming empowerment.
In addition to her creative work and achievements, Crystal is an advocate for women’s empowerment and wants women to feel that they can go after any goal that they hope to achieve. To promote this message, Crystal founded “Live With Love”, an online platform with the mission of helping women live their best life through movement and mindset.
