ASTON BURSTS BACK ONTO THE SCENE

WITH IMPRESSIVE DEBUT SELF-TITLED EP

October 07, 2021

Today sees ASTON release her self-titled debut EP featuring the three singles, ‘Girl Is A Gun’, ‘Killer Queen’ and ‘Firebomb’, and two new songs, including focus track ‘Middle Fingers’. The EP is destined to cement her reputation as one of the country’s emerging pop icons.

The EP is all about growth. Find yourself to lose yourself to find yourself all over again. This is the unofficial official guide to discovering and reminding yourself who the fuck you really are!” says ASTON of the EP.

With her impressive history as a gun pop songwriter, which includes writing for Evie Irie, Cosmos Midnight (‘C.U.D.I.’ hitting triple j’s Hottest 100) and K-Pop stars AESPA, whose single ‘Next Level’ has become the biggest K-Pop song of 2021 so far, surpassing the phenomenal BTS ‘Butter’ in the process.

Now it’s time for ASTON to shine with her own songs. With close to 1 million Tik Tok followers (7 million likes), over the last few months ASTON has been taking to the platform with her car singing sessions. Her performances of her own songs as well as songs that inspire her have been going viral, bringing in a massive global audience.

On this EP, ASTON steps forward with confidence, ready to ascend. Embodying the badass women and queer heroes who empower her, it’s a record that showcases her innate charisma and sharp song writing; altogether, it’s something extraordinary. The awe-struck “Girl Is A Gun” finds ASTON marvelling at the overwhelming power of first attraction, her rhythmic, rat-a-tat vocal melody hitting like the weapon of the song’s title; “Heartbreak Club”, on the other hand, finds empowerment in lost love, proof that, no matter whether in love or out of it, confidence is something that’s kindled within.

“Middle Fingers” is a lilting, headstrong anthem that anyone who’s ever wanted to give a glamorous “F— You” to life itself can relate to; its simmering, slow-building tension is sure to soundtrack many a night out and Uber home. And on “Killer Queen”, jealousy and attraction turn dark as ASTON conveys a gender-swapped, Fatal Attraction-style narrative of obsession.

Too many times, I’ve been in bad situations where I’ve desperately wanted to flip the bird, give a big FU and storm out of a room. It’s pretty unapologetic and ballsy. I’ve just had enough of apologising for who I am, and that’s why I wrote Middle Fingers. It’s my personal pep talk to remind me of my own worth. This song really helped me walk away from some of the worst people in my life, and I hope that you’ll have the courage to as well when you play it,” ASTON says of the inspiration for the song ‘Middle Fingers’.

Inspired by pop’s strongest women but brazenly forging her own path, ASTON is a pop star for a new generation —an electric writer and vocalist who lives by a punk ethos. Hailing from the Central Coast, this Australian powerhouse singer-songwriter has already tasted international success, her tracks featured on a commercial for BMW in China and on Netflix via the television series’ ‘Insatiable’ and ‘Lucifer’. Her singles ‘Next Level’ (9M streams) and ‘Original’ have been featured on Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and NBA 2k20, respectively.
