Just when you thought the hip-hop game was lacking something real, Asim I.I. steps in with his new single, Summertime.
This record is packed with all the elements that make rap great —infectious beats, tight rhymes, and a flavour that takes you straight back to the 90s. Asim hails from Brooklyn, the birthplace of rap, and he’s got the skills to prove it. With roots in the classic sounds of the genre’s legends, he’s got a fresh take that’s all his own. Asim got his start with the group Malignant and later hooked up with Kris Kartel (Kartel Route) and the legendary producer Angelicvoicesmusic.
After dedicating his life to Jesus Christ, he’s been writing about everything from water and pasta sauce to movies and God. And let me tell you, the dude’s got a flow that’s second to none. So, what’s Summertime all about? Well, Asim says it was inspired by the Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, with production by Angelicvoices that’ll have you boppin’ your head in no time. When it came time to write the chorus, they needed a singer with the right vibe, and that’s when they found Keisha Martin. She was a perfect fit, and the song was a match made in heaven.
They filmed the video with long-time friend Kris Kartel, and it’s now available on all platforms. From the first note, you know you’re in for something special. The groove is contagious, with a foundation that’s solid as a rock. Asim’s rhymes are on point, taking you from the personal to the general, with tales of summer and the freedom it brings. The chorus is catchy as hell, and it’ll stick in your head long after the song’s over. So, there you have it, folks. Asim I.I. has made his mark with Summertime, a rap classic in the making.
