In the space of just a year, Adelaide pop-punk duo Wing Defence have taken full flight.
From determining their sound on debut single ‘Stuck’, and thriving through the release of ‘Listerine’ and ‘Hindsight’, Wing Defence now embrace the beginning of a brand new chapter, unveiling the emotional new track in ‘Cuts’.
Captivating as ever, ‘Cuts’ is an inward look at the ups and downs and unpredictability of the dating realm from Walter’s point of view, where there seem to be less and less frameworks for traditional success.
Recorded at Repeater in Adelaide and mastered by Rick O’Neil (Silverchair, You Am I, Powderfinger), Wing Defence channel raw honesty on the track, in the same vein as Ruby Fields and Alex The Astronaut.
“‘Cuts’ explores Skye’s experience with her two week stint on the dating app Tinder, and emphatically includes the on-going experience of her friends who have also dabbled with the fickle and rather disappointing outcomes.” Wing Defence
The ‘Cuts’ music video sees Court further flex her creative muscles, drawing the 100+ animations herself. The DIY aesthetic continues to be very much a part of the Wing Defence output, defined by earnest love for the craft.
“Creating the clip was about challenging myself to do something I hadn’t done before and the idea of an animation video was cool. I like to draw for fun and to cope with external things so I combined all that to create the video” Paige Court

PRAISE FOR WING DEFENCE
“A powerful double-act of angsty, addictive riffs and twin-voiced vocal haze…proof that with the right players, a team only needs two people.”
Triple J, Al Newstead (‘Hindsight’, 2019)

“Without even digging into the ever-clever lyrics from this group, I just wanna shout out the feel of this new song. It is just dripping with cool. Wing Defence with another strike!”
Triple J Unearthed, Dave Ruby Howe (‘Hindsight’, 2019)

“The track showcases the duo’s captivating brand of pop-punk and trust us, one serving won’t be enough.”
Wickedd Childd (‘Hindsight’, 2019)

“It’s always revitalising to see women on stage at gigs, especially in the heavily male-dominated rock scene, and this band absolutely revelled in the message that us girls unapologetically belong up there too. Wing Defence are ‘here if you need’ and girls, we categorically and unreservedly need you.”
