MICHELLE NICOLLE QUARTET CELEBRATING 21 YEARS – Fri 26 July

Presented by The Music Lounge and Wollongong Conservatorium of Music

July 17, 2019

Famed Melbourne jazz vocalist Michelle Nicolle and her stellar quartet celebrate their 21st birthday this year and jazz fans of Wollongong are invited to the celebrations.

The 2017 Bell award-winning Melbourne-based band is critically acclaimed as one of the most prolific and inventive jazz ensembles in Australia. Nicolle – the 1998 National Jazz Award Winner – has praise from critics and contemporaries alike.

Rolling Stone describes her as having “formidable technique and a staggering range” and legendary jazz vocalist Kurt Elling accalims her as “a singer born to sing, born to charm, enlighten and seduce through music.”

Together with her long-term collaborators Geoff Hughes (guitar), Tom Lee (bass) and Ronny Farella (bass) the MNQ lovingly explore music. With a thoroughly contemporary and innovative approach, MNQ’s repertoire is steeped in the rich tradition of jazz, storytelling and the magic of live performance. In their 21 years together the group has released 8 albums and performed throughout Australia, Asia and Europe.

For this performance at the Music Lounge, the MNQ will present a retrospective of their amazing career, which The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music believe will be unmissable.

“Michelle Nicolle is not only one of the finest vocalists in Australia but arguably the world as well” says Eric Dunan, from The Conservatorium. He continues: “we’re very excited to be able to present Michelle and her stellar band here in Wollongong and I encourage jazz fans of the region to come as I believe this concert could be one of the highlights of the year”.
