Vast Hill’s Top 5 80’s Film Clips of all Time

Vast Hill’s Top 5 80’s Film Clips of all Time

July 03, 2019

We asked 80’s inspired Synth outfit Vast Hill what their favourite 80’s film clips were.

Here are their top 5:-

No. 5 – Wouldn’t It Be Good – Nik Kershaw:

The main reason this gets in our top five is because of that magical suit. You seriously gotta see the CGI and Green Screen effects on this bad boy. P.S Kershaw had some serious acting chops!

No. 4 – Doing It All For My Baby – Huey Lewis And The News:

Its no “Thriller”, but its close. The set work and comedy in this clip still stands up today. It’s one of those theatrical clips, where it tells a story for the first half then launches into the tune. Don’t skip the first bit but! We promise you won’t regret it.

No. 3 – Method Of Modern Love – Daryl Hall & John Oates:

Out of all the Hall and Oates videos we think this one takes the cake. On top of being an absolute catchy tune the video is the perfect introduction to prop driven 80s studio shot videos. It feels like grabbed random bits of set from movies going on around them and thought “…yeah…that’ll do, bunch of us playing on a foggy rooftop and flying through the clouds at the end…done!”. Hall can definitely pull off the Cowboy boots over the pants kinda look.

No. 2 – Call Me – Go West:

This is a clip we’ve honestly watched about 100 times. Something about it just keeps us coming back. How do people come up with this stuff?!? It contains everything from cheesy dancing, stop motion, green screens, upside down roof climbing, and unnecessary greasing up of the face. We’re a little jealous that we didn’t come up with this one first.

No. 1 – Just A Gigolo / I Ain’t Got Nobody – David Lee Roth:

What a clip! David Lee Roth spends a whole clip fantasising about all the things he’d do if he could make his own video clip. All of which includes invading other pop icons video clips, sticking it to the man, and making his way through the most colourful cast of characters out there. It’s the closest thing we’ll ever see to a life action remake of Rocko’s Modern life.. Makes us laugh every time.
