The barrelhouse, boogie fun of a blues party Fri 31 May
May 28, 2019
Jan Preston and Don Hopkins are specialists of boogie/rhythm and blues piano styles made popular by players such as Fats Domino and Winifred Atwell. The beat is energetic, the vocals electric and the spirit overwhelmingly uplifting.
“This style of piano has the same effect on me as it has on my audience” says Jan, “There’s a lot of stress in everyone’s life these days, and it’s overwhelming to have feedback from people after the show whose spirits have been raised by the music. It’s particularly special when Don and I play together. Something magical and unstoppable happens, I could play and sing with him all night long!”
Jan Preston is known as the Queen of Boogie Piano in Australia. She has received extensive accolades, tours nationally and internationally, and also composed the Theme to ABC TV’s Australian Story. Don Hopkins has been awarded at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis USA, performs regularly at festivals in Australia, NZ and Austria, and has been inducted into Australia’s Blues Walk of Fame.
Jan and Don are both known as dynamic and engaging live performers, with sensational piano playing technique, as well as rich and resonant voices – and they will be joining forces in an exciting piano duet for their finale.
They will be joined by drummer Mike Pullman, so please bring your dancing shoes if you would like!
