One of Sydney’s most endearing artists, Billy Fox, has just unveiled his mesmerising second EP ‘LUNG’ – produced by the musician himself, mixed by Chris Collins (Gang of Youths, Middle Kids, Ruby Fields) and mastered by Steve Smart (Vance Joy, Tash Sultana, Dean Lewis).
From the soul-infused, gospel-laden vocals of ‘Echo’ to the spacious and intricately textured production of ‘Be Like This For a While’, Fox’s follow up EP is another ethereal, drenched-in-melancholia slice of emotive and eclectic-pop, that cohesively combines themes of R&B, soul and hip-hop.
Latest single ‘Let’s Be Honest’ sees Billy’s vocals dripping with equal-parts sex appeal and painful longing, informed by a constant rolling percussive groove and sharp brass lines. This was soon accompanied by a visually striking neon-soaked horror parable videoclip, expressing Billy’s artistic expression of the frustration many have with issues such as pill testing in NSW.
Billy Fox talks about the journey and inspiration behind ‘LUNG’:
“The ‘LUNG’ EP is a seven-track offering, with each track focusing on themes that make up what we experience as the human condition. Themes ranging from love, break-ups, acceptance, reparation and being honest with ourselves. It’s quite existential, which was not a conscious decision. I’ve always had a deep fascination with what makes humans tick, and why we behave the ways we do. This is why I named it the ‘LUNG’ EP, as our lungs are involuntarily our most vital connection to life”.
Previous releases have been supported by the likes of Indie Shuffle, The Line of Best Fit, The 405 and a slew of other tastemakers, which resulted in a top one charting position via Hype Machine’s esteemed ‘Now’ charts. He has also received radio play from national broadcaster triple j, as well as community radio stations FBi Radio, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, RTR FM, SYN FM, Radio Adelaide and Edge FM.
Recently Billy Fox has birthed a creative collective of Sydney artists and Bi-Monthly event series called Common Good, which aims to bring together like-minded creatives, including artists’ Sparrows, Self Tape, Mookhi and Ross Henry.
Fox has traversed the country multiple times selling out his own headline shows and supporting the likes of Glass Animals, Sahara Beck, Harts and The Aston Shuffle. To celebrate the launch of ‘LUNG’, Fox will set out to perform live in Melbourne and Sydney in April and May.
