DROVES RELEASE SPOOKY VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE BLOODLINE

PLUS BONUS TRACK ‘RESENTMENT’ + TOUR DATES!

April 10, 2019

If you thought that the finest dark wave pop was solely born out of Britain in the 80s, Wollongong’s DROVES are here to prove otherwise.

Cropping up from amongst the surfy vibes of the south coast city just last year, DROVES are already making massive (new) waves – following up their 2018 debut with their latest single ‘Bloodline’, a blend of pulsing drums, glistening analogue synths and beautifully contrasted vocal harmonies.

Inspired by the iconic aesthetics of their influences, including New Order and The Cure, the video for ‘Bloodline’ is dark and foreboding, horror film meets cult documentary. Filmed and directed by Teel Studios, the eerie clip incorporates a sprinkling of colour by way of wilted flowers and searing flames, perfectly complementing the song’s anthemic pop hooks.

The five piece, made up of Phillip Spiteri, Taylor McAuliffe, Luise Martin, Jonathan McKenzie and Tiernan Browne, draw inspiration from their own lives as well as concepts of dystopian futures, technology, modernity and mortality. The band’s first single ‘Time’ was an instant hit, scoring spins on community radio, triple j and rage, and securing them a spot on the 2018 Yours & Owls festival line-up – not a bad gig for their first live show!

‘Bloodline’ is also the title of a collection of three songs – ‘Time’, ‘Bloodline’ and bonus track ‘Resentment’ which the band is unearthing today. The mini EP is embedded with a dark dissonance that melts into weightlessness – carrying darkness with light, which Phillip (vocalist and synth player) echoes; “we hope to only speak of finding love and support in dark places”.

Phillip says that ‘Bloodline’ has been a catharsis for him emotionally, following the death of a close family member and the resulting disfunction of a life post loss. He says “there’s something cathartic about singing things you’re too afraid to say.
As soon as you sing a song about it you can step away”.

DROVES are officially launching ‘Bloodline’ in Sydney on April 23rd, amongst a slew of other dates, so get your post-apocalyptic dancing shoes on.
