Making It Easy is the follow-up single for emerging Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jake Murdoch to 2016’s debut release Free Spirited Baby.
An effortless-sounding and congenial example of country pop-rock, Jake’s latest was co-written by Max Jackson (winner of Australia’s most prestigious country music competition, Toyota Star Maker) and features Russell ‘Rusty’ Smith (didgeridoo).
The song was recorded in The Recording Room with Scott Whatman. The primary selling features of the single and the sort of selling points that are consistent with the genre are the chorus hook, on-point performances, and unfiltered, direct lyric. The lyric’s core premise is enhanced by the song’s uplifting groove and general breezy, mellow ambience.
As Jake says about the new track, ‘This song is about how everyone is always rushing around in life and how we just need to take a break sometimes and take it easy. The message is also about not wasting so much time worrying about stuff which you can’t control and instead focus on spending quality time with our family and friends and having a healthy mental mindset.’
Jake has won multiple honours and is a multiple-time nominee for the 7 News Young Achiever award. Aside from the QMusic/Queensland Music Award, he has also taken home the Tamworth Songwriting Award, the International Songwriting Competition Award, the Capital Country Music Association Award, and the World Songwriting Award.
He has collaborated with several notable artists, such as Tania Kernaghan, Max Jackson, Robbie James, Asabi Goodman, and Vicky O’Keefe, and has been recognised for his work at numerous festivals and talent events. Jake has also collaborated with Andrew Farriss on new music for a forthcoming song. With the help of the music video, Jake’s blossoming reputation, and the song’s melodic sway, Making It Easy is likely to attract decent airplay and streaming action.
