OUT NOW!
February 27, 2022
Australian rock band, LEADFINGER, have today released their fantastic NEW and 6thalbum, Silver & Black, through Golden Robot Records. It’s their first album since the highly regarded 2016 album, Friday Night Heroes.
Silver & Black is available on CD, 180g Double Vinyl and on all digital platforms NOW, the release marking the start of a new chapter for the highly respected and influential, LEADFINGER.
The story of Silver & Black began not long after the career high of the first LEADFINGER tour of Europe in October 2017 when the bands singer/songwriter, Stewart Cunningham fell ill and was shockingly diagnosed with lung cancer.
Following almost 2 years of treatment that included losing one of his lungs and a long, painful recovery, the band began to try and regroup, not even knowing whether Cunningham would be able to play and sing again.
Somewhat miraculously, things slowly fell into place in the isolation (and therapy) of the rehearsal room and then in and around Covid and lockdowns, the band managed to write and record the new album at Garth Porter’s Rancom Street Studio in Sydney with Brent Clark producing. Finally, with the album in the can and after an almost 4-year absence from the stage, LEADFINGER returned to play live again in June 2021 with new songs and a renewed self-belief in their music and each other. The release of Silver & Black marks the final step in the bands triumph over serious adversity.
Watch ‘The Fall of Rome’
Silver & Black opens with the slow burning redemption of ‘Dodged a Bullet’ and from there the pace lifts with the explosive rock of ‘One More Day’ and the classic power pop of ‘Sleeping Dogs’. Other highlights include the emotive ballad ‘Find the Words’ and the epic ‘The Fall of Rome’.
The mind-blowing ‘Here Come the Bats’ closes off the nine-song CD and digital album. The albums killer riffs and songs are linked via Cunningham’s often reflective lyric themes exploring real life challenges & experiences that many will relate to. Many of these songs hint at Cunningham’s close call and explore the exhilaration and challenges of surviving, but also uncannily touch on the zeitgeist of our times. The weaving, melodic guitar lines of Cunningham and Michael Boyle are complemented by inventive harmony vocals that take the album beyond the standard rock fare.
Dillon Hicks (Drums) and Adam Screen (Bass) deliver the bottom end grunt and power below all the melody with clear conviction and nuance. Silver & Black is a dynamic, hi-fidelity album made to be played loud!! An amazing album with an even more amazing back story. It is a musical testament to determination and to the resilience of LEADFINGER and the bands leader, Stewart Cunningham. It is fitting that it is the bands strongest and most accomplished album to date.

ABOUT LEADFINGER
The name LEADFINGER was originally a nome de plume for the band’s songwriter/guitarist/hero of the oppressed etc, Stewart ‘Leadfinger’ Cunningham.
After first plying his guitar-slinger trade in the late 80’s with Wollongong’s seminal pre-grunge Proton Energy Pills, Cunningham headed to Sydney to play in underground guitar bands – Brother Brick, Asteroid B-612 and Challenger-7 – as well as a stint in Melbourne with The Yes-Men.
After forming LEADFINGER in 2006 as a solo project, it morphed into a twin guitar rock n’ roll band that released its 5th album, ‘Friday Night Heroes’ in July 2016 and toured Europe in October 2017.
LEADFINGER mine the deep seam of rock’n’roll, back through the 70’s rock and punk era’s to the classic Stones and Dylan records of the 60’s and beyond. Their timeless songwriting and heart on sleeve delivery has won them many fans. They released their 6th album, Silver & Black, on 25 February, 2022.
