THE SOUL MOVERS Unveil New EP ‘Not Putting It Down’

The Multi-Mix

LAUNCHES AND TOUR DATES CONFIRMED FOR NOV / DEC 2021, JAN 2022 Including The Servo, Port Kembla

November 23, 2021

‘Not Putting It Down’ is The Soul Movers’ sunny new single, dripping with sixties-style harmonies and a killer guitar solo, played by none other than legendary Sunnyboy, Jeremey Oxley.

‘Not Putting It Down’ was written in the suburbs of Coogee and Newtown, NSW, by Lizzie Mack and Murray Cook during the long months of lockdown in August and September 2021, then mixed and mastered by Christian Peterson at Sundown Studios in WA in September, Hot Potato Studios, NSW, and finally, Recordworks in balmy Brisbane in early October. Fans can download / stream ‘Not Putting It Down’ HERE.

Channeling the vibes, harmonies and 12-string guitars of the early 1960s, The Soul Movers have created three different versions, across three different Aussie states with three generations of Aussie music makers – mixed by three great music producers! The resulting EP is designed to tantalise the tastes of any ears that appreciate a retro flavour.

The song’s lyrics spell out the positive vibes of holding close to your dreams when the world starts to warp and slide a bit… If you are chasing a modern mix with ballsy bass and drums you might want to try Sundown, Hot Potato Studios offer the distinctive voices of Tony Mitchell, Murray Cook and Nadene Burchall (King Ibis) seeming to come from the same Laurel-lined Canyon as the Mammas and Pappas. Recordworks lush sheen glows with an almost 70’s ABBA or Carpenters polish to it:

Well, I’m not letting this go, not putting this down,

not living my life without it…and you…

– you got our lives in your hands now, you know it’s true

I hope you really understand now… woah, woah…”

“On a bad day, our extended east-coast musical family really struggled to stay on the surface through lock-down, it felt like the entire live music industry was watching the tide rise… said Murray Cook (ex-Red Wiggle and co-creator of all things soul-moving). “We were straining hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel there for a while – and I’m pretty well known for being an optimist, so Lizzie and I resorted to the things that gives us maximum joy – writing new songs and playing vintage (and for this track, a gorgeous twelve-string) guitars!”.

“Every musician out there was hanging on tight to the end vision of playing on a live stage again”, said Lizzie. ‘When we first wrote “Not Putting It Down” I played the new song over in my head and when we hit the solo section, I just heard a classic, “Jeremy Oxley style” glorious guitar solo ringing out; telling us that we would survive this time and leading us back into the sunshine of pure, joyous sound – the ever-beating heart of live music” says Lizzie Mack.

Jeremy’s partner, Mary Oxley-Griffiths, had become a friend of Murray’s over the years and having sent the track demo through to Mary and Jeremy, he was stoked to hear back that Jeremy loved the song and would happily accept the invitation to record a guitar solo for it.  “It was a really happy day hearing that Jeremy would join us on the Recordworks’ mix. Jeremy’s guitar solos in particular are iconic – and it was so fantastic to hear the song shine through his vision. It was like the warm, Brissie shine shone through to us those cascading licks – giving us a perfect third version for the EP” said Murray.

“Not Putting It Down” launches in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane from November 26 through December 12. The Soul Movers’ tour van once again lights up the highways of the East Coast with the new EP being played live to music-loving audiences.

2022 glows bright with multiple appearances at festivals from Parkes Elvis to Nannup, Blues on Broadbeach to Splendour and beyond – check out www.soulmoversband.com for info as it arises.

The band is super-excited to share their new music and the pure joy of soul-survival as they reconnect with fans at upcoming live shows.
