INDIGO POINT ‘MONOCHROME’ EP RELEASE

INDIGO POINT ‘MONOCHROME’ EP RELEASE

Wednesday July 28, 2021

Slogging it out on the Sydney gig circuit helped Indigo Point to develop a hybrid rock sound, taking elements of post-grunge, classic rock and adding a few contemporary nuances to the mix.

The band’s new release, Will I Still Be Here Tomorrow, the lead track from their forthcoming EP Monochrome, due on the 27th of August, is a stirring embodiment of this style, an earnest and dynamic approach underscored by a melodic heart and plenty of grit. After all, the chorus does pose the question: ‘Is this still the same of sorrow?’ the lyric contains quite a few of these interrogatives: ‘Is it satisfying? / Is this really what we want to be? / Have we already been here?’

When it comes to style, yes, we have been here before, but there’s a balance between light and dark, heft and air, that the band toys with, and the result is a disciplined hard rock record with some bite in the verses and a torrential hook in the chorus.

As the band has said, ‘We would also love to be a part of a movement that brought rock back into the mainstream, or at least into the new Australian scene which seems more and more to be defining itself by a new, psychedelic and surf-oriented sound that we’re not that into.’

This ambition seems to be obvious. In the face of this saturated music marketplace—excuse the corporate speak—this aspiration to steer Australian rock towards the mainstream is admirable. School friends Sam Morrell (guitar, vocals) and J.J. Tempas (bass) formed the band in 2017, going on to be joined by drummer Josh Mason. With an EP and four singles released to date, the new track is sure to appease the band’s fans and initiate a groundswell of attention. ‘We like to think that our shows make us stand out.

We put a lot of work into them and really bash ourselves when we feel like we gave a shit show. We try to put on a show, not just a performance.’ The energy of these live shows is successfully transposed on Will I Still Be Here Tomorrow, creating a vigorous and effective contemporary rock track.
