THE PHAZES UNVEIL NEW SINGLE ‘HOLLYWOOD’

THE PHAZES UNVEIL NEW SINGLE ‘HOLLYWOOD’

April 17, 2020

Following on from their critically praised single ‘Manly Vale’, Sydney-based indie-rock band The Phazes have returned with their enigmatic follow up ‘Hollywood’.

‘Hollywood’ is an explosion of jangly, up-beat indie-rock, that takes cues from luminaries The Strokes and The Growlers. From the outset, staccato guitar chords, driving drums and melodic bass lines burst with colour, all complemented by lead singer Hayden Byrnes’ growling vocals.

As the track switches back and forth between its sparse verses and soaring choruses, ‘Hollywood’ finds its extra gear within its outro, exploding with a myriad of guitar riffs.

Hayden talks about the meaning behind ‘Hollywood’:

‘Hollywood’ is basically saying that while we are so close to being where we want to be in our careers, the fact of the matter is that we just aren’t. While I generally like to leave the listener to interpret and create their own story, this theme can be seen through the lyrics; ‘woke up on a street, 10 miles away from Hollywood, I’m so close in the race but what I taste really ain’t that good’.
