‘BREATHE’

Recorded in their bedroom on a broken mic in one take, MONATOMIC release their most vulnerable track, ‘Breathe’.

Steffan Lazar and Tarran Webster have created a stripped-back, bittersweet ballad of unrequited love and a unique deviation from their current catalogue of pop tracks.  ‘Breathe’ emanates emotional vulnerability and is inspired by Steffan’s stream of consciousness and personal battles with mental health. 

“This particular song gets deep into the despair and darkness you can feel when you’re totally in love with someone but they don’t love you back but just use you. It was written when I was suffering from depression and it all came out in one stream of consciousness”, explains Steffan.

Fusing their broad music tastes of garage rock to shiny pop, as well as taking inspiration from artists such as Lorde and Peking Duk, the childhood friends have formed a sound and style that is both unique and genre-bending. 

Over the past years, the duo have received airplay across triple j (including Breakfast, House Party and Home & Hosed), FBi and Hit Network for their track ‘One More Chance’. 

The last twelve months alone MONATOMIC have opened for Art vs. Science at Beerfest, Bootleg Rascal at the King Street Crawl and flew to the U.S. to work with producers Nicopop and Tony Buchen (G-Flip, Peking Duk). The pair also had their track ‘They’re Playing My Song’ featured on the Mad Hueys 2020 calendar video earning more than 1.8 Million views.

The duo from Sydney’s Northern Beaches are determined to put forward their most vulnerable selves with ‘Breathe’, and have plans for more releases later this year.
