LITTLE QUIRKS unveil new single ‘COVER MY EYES’

October 24, 2019

They’ve got the hooks, the harmonies and the explosive live energy, but if there’s one thing Little Quirks are missing, it’s a good fake ID.

It’s not that unusual to get carded at a Sydney venue, but when you’re due to play in 10 minutes, things can get a bit hairy. Upon their return from dinner, sisters Abbey and Mia Toole, and cousin Jaymi Toole were stopped at the door by a bouncer. With Mia only being 15, the manager had to be summoned, forms signed, assurances given.

“It was a bit of a process,” laughs Abbey, only just out of high school herself. “I mean, we’ve been singing in pubs for years without any problems.”

There’s little chance of this Gosford family band slipping under the radar anymore. Their first single ‘Crumbled’ has clocked up more than 2 million streams on Spotify, and the band are playing bigger and bigger stages, from folk festivals to supporting the likes of The Teskey Brothers, The Preachers, Jack River and Xavier Rudd.

Their EP is being released track by track, having released the uplifting pop number ‘Life Wouldn’t Be’ in September receiving a 4-star review from Declan Byrne from Triple j “It’s that brand of good times folk that will have everyone swept up and smiling throughout.” With an additional 5-star review from Wendy Saunders from ABC Local Radio, “Full of hooks, Little Quirks create a world where folk and pop melodies intertwine to create wondrous harmonies!”

Little Quirks now follow with the title track of the EP, ‘Cover My Eyes’. Abbey saying today “Cover My Eyes is about feeling fearless and blindly jumping into something without knowing the end result.”

The band worked with Producer, Wayne Connolly on the EP, who has a faultless indie pedigree, but who Little Quirks particularly appreciated for his work on alt-folk and country acts such All Our Exes Live in Texas and Boy & Bear. The brief was to bring some exhilarating pop and indie to their delicate folk side.

With that accomplished, it’s still the raise-the-hair-on-the-back-of-the-neck three-part harmonies that are at the heart of the Little Quirks sound. Like siblings First Aid Kit, Little Quirks have an almost psychic ability to blend their voices.

It is easy to imagine their musical upbringing with everyone playing an instrument (or a few), and the influences of their parents collection which is now met with a feisty new folk sound that bursts with energy in a live setting – think the bounding exuberance and stage craft of Mumford & Sons.

Little Quirks are currently on their tour of the East coast having played to adoring crowds at BIGSOUND, Dashville Festival, headline shows in Brisbane and Sydney with shows in Victoria still to come at Lost Lands Festival (VIC) and their headline show at The Espy in Melbourne in November.
